Event Description

Join ABQ Beeks mentors and experienced beekeepers to learn how to work both Langstroth and Top Bar hives at the Open Space Visitor Center Bee Yard. It's FREE! We only have room for 13 beeks per yard visit, so make sure to RSVP (you must be an ABQ Beeks member to RSVP). First come, first served. If you can't make it, kindly remove your name so the next person in the list can attend. Please prepare accordingly: wear light colored clothing, closed-toe shoes, long pants, long-sleeved shirt, and avoid heavy fragrances. The Open Space Visitor Center has a limited number of veils for loan. You must have one to participate. It can be hot in the bee yard - bring plenty of water.

I never saw a formal cancellation of this event, but due to the rain and previous comments I stayed home. Hope I was correct in assuming the event is a no-go!

It seems that we are cancelled today? Hoping for an official as it is an hour trip for myself. More importantly good morning !

I am keeping an eye on the weather! It's raining hard at my house and the radar looks like storms hovering over us most of the day. If we are rained out, I would be on for next weekend! Thanks!

Comment by Elizabeth Lake yesterday

I was supposed to do the Lang today, and at my house it's raining far too much at this time to go into a hive.

But I'm still going to head up there because of the pollinator event.
And, if the weather is done by 9:00, we could still possibly open a hive for a bit.

If this gets rained out, maybe we can postpone and try again next weekend...?

Following up on Birdie J's comment that I saw Jan Ankerson respond to as it sounds like the hives won't be opened at 9am with this weather?

If the weather is stormy, is the class still on? Thanks so much!

You can come to the mentor program if you want and learn more and ask questions. It is informal in someways. Bring hat  or you can borrow one.and wear light colors.

This way you can see how it works a little... it is a long journey.

First time working with bees!

We have two dormant hives that I think are...Top Bar that were kindly donated to our family mini farm.

It would be great to get them started this summer!

Do we need to reserve a veil in advance?
