Albuquerque Beekeepers

Urban beekeeping in New Mexico's largest city.

Did you know that bees pollinate 1 out of every 3 bites of food we eat? It's kind of astounding, really.

These humble little creatures are responsible for 1/3 of our food supply. The number of bee colonies has been steadily declining for the last 40 years.  Loss of pollinator habitats, toxic pesticides, and genetic modification of crops are all thought to be potential contributing factors, but researchers are still unclear of the exact cause. With nearly 50 percent population losses being reported thus far in 2017, action is needed now more than ever. Bob's Red Mill has partnered with GloryBee to support their efforts to Save the Bee.

Save the Bee dedicates 100% of the money it raises to support research, awareness and education. To date, GloryBee has raised nearly $200,000 for this amazing cause. You can help Save the Bee, too.

From now until September 30th, 2017, post a picture of a bee on Instagram using#SavetheBee. GloryBee will donate 25 cents to the Save the Bee program.

Honey bee numbers have been stable for over 20 years. They took a big hit when varroa and associated viruses, nosema ceranae, and small hive beatles all showed up within a few years but the numbers recovered.
