Albuquerque Beekeepers

Urban beekeeping in New Mexico's largest city.

How do I use this site?

Welcome! This is a community site for beekeepers in Albuquerque (known as "ABQ Beeks").

Whether you're just getting started or you're a long-time beek, I hope you'll use this site to share information, find events, and connect with each other.

For new beekeepers + people curious about beekeeping:

Hang out. Ask questions in the forum. Consider attending a local event. Volunteer to help someone harvest honey or open their hives.

For experienced beekeepers:

This site needs your knowledge. Please consider signing up and answering questions posted by new beekeepers. Consider creating a special interest group like "Top Bar Beekeepers" or "Swarm Catchers." Post an announcement.

The beauty of a public site like this is that you won't have to answer the same question as many times and can just point new beeks to your previous posts ;-)

How to get started here:

To post questions, answers, and events, you'll need to create a (free) account. Just click Sign Up in the top right of the website.

Once you've done that and answered a few basic questions, you're ready to engage.

How to email people:

Did you know you can directly contact people via this site?

Using this system, you can send someone a message that is forwarded to their personal email address. NOTE: Your personal email address is not revealed to anyone but the site administrator (that's me).

To send someone an email, find their page on the list of members, and then click Send a Message.

How to check your messages

If you've received an email from someone, you can check your messages by logging in and then clicking Inbox at the top right.

How to get emailed about new discussions

Find out how.

What other questions can I answer about this site for you? I'm happy to help you get started.

Hi Maureen,

because swarm season is primarily in the spring, swarm list admission is only open for a very short time in February and March. Keep an eye out for an email from ABQ Beeks at that time to add yourself.

Thanks

How do I get on the swarm removal list?  I've looked and can't find any instructions.  Please text me at 505-379-2791,  Thanks.

On behalf of Mama's Minerals, I'd  like to invite one or more representatives of Albuquerque Beekeepers to Mama’s Minerals 11th Annual Arts & Crafts Fair on Saturday, August 27 from 10 AM – 4 PM. It is one of the largest arts & crafts fairs in the state, with over 100 artists selling exclusively handmade goods. Based on traffic counts from our previous fairs, we estimate that 2,000 people will visit and shop the fair this year.

We’d like to offer Albuquerque Beekeepers one of our Community Rocks! booths, as a chance to promote your organization and reach out to the public. Your booth would be 10 ft x 10 ft, and there would be no charge to you as a Community Rocks! participant. You would, however, need to bring your own table, tent & tent weights, etc. We do have chairs for you to use if needed.

Booths are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so the sooner you let me know you’re interested the better your chances of getting in! You may either respond to this email address or call Mama’s Minerals at 505-266-8443 and ask for Amanda. I work Monday-Thursday from 9 AM – 3:30 PM.

Thank you, and we sincerely hope that you are able to take advantage of this opportunity!

I posted a message asking whether anyone has Queens for sale.  It shows up on my own page but how are others supposed to see it?

Comment by Raymond Espinoza on July 18, 2014 at 9:17pm

How do i change my email address? Or should i just re-register with my new address?  Thanks

Comment by Gordon C. Thomasson on March 21, 2013 at 9:49am

I feel (dumb?).  Can't figure out how to register myself to offer a bee home.

I'm on the page but though I'm signed-in it acts like a read-only site.

Thanks

Hello, my name is Niovis,  live here in Albuquerque, I'm a newbie planning on starting a hive, was wondering if there is any one locally that is selling package bees preferably Italian, or Carniolan, but if you know of some other sturdy ones please let me know. I know there is a lot of places online to purchase, but why not from my community.  niovisd@yahoo.com Thank You Niovis

 Hi Everyone,

We opened one of our hives and it seems to have no Queen. Lots of Drone cells and many bees, but no new comb or larvae. We put a bar of honey from our other hive, now we need a Queen. Are there any out there???
