Albuquerque Beekeepers

Urban beekeeping in New Mexico's largest city.

How do I use this site?

Welcome! This is a community site for beekeepers in Albuquerque (known as "ABQ Beeks").

Whether you're just getting started or you're a long-time beek, I hope you'll use this site to share information, find events, and connect with each other.

For new beekeepers + people curious about beekeeping:

Hang out. Ask questions in the forum. Consider attending a local event. Volunteer to help someone harvest honey or open their hives.

For experienced beekeepers:

This site needs your knowledge. Please consider signing up and answering questions posted by new beekeepers. Consider creating a special interest group like "Top Bar Beekeepers" or "Swarm Catchers." Post an announcement.

The beauty of a public site like this is that you won't have to answer the same question as many times and can just point new beeks to your previous posts ;-)

How to get started here:

To post questions, answers, and events, you'll need to create a (free) account. Just click Sign Up in the top right of the website.

Once you've done that and answered a few basic questions, you're ready to engage.

How to email people:

Did you know you can directly contact people via this site?

Using this system, you can send someone a message that is forwarded to their personal email address. NOTE: Your personal email address is not revealed to anyone but the site administrator (that's me).

To send someone an email, find their page on the list of members, and then click Send a Message.

How to check your messages

If you've received an email from someone, you can check your messages by logging in and then clicking Inbox at the top right.

How to get emailed about new discussions

Find out how.

What other questions can I answer about this site for you? I'm happy to help you get started.

Lorene, you need to sign in and go to the forum you want to post your question or answer, then in the upper right hand side there will be a green + sign and the word ADD.  Click this and it will allow you to post your question or comment in that forum.  Im new at this and hope this helps.  Dan

I posted a message asking whether anyone has Queens for sale.  It shows up on my own page but how are others supposed to see it?

How do i change my email address? Or should i just re-register with my new address?  Thanks

I feel (dumb?).  Can't figure out how to register myself to offer a bee home.

I'm on the page but though I'm signed-in it acts like a read-only site.

Hello, my name is Niovis,  live here in Albuquerque, I'm a newbie planning on starting a hive, was wondering if there is any one locally that is selling package bees preferably Italian, or Carniolan, but if you know of some other sturdy ones please let me know. I know there is a lot of places online to purchase, but why not from my community. Thank You Niovis

Our 4 Hills garden group has been in existence for over 40 + yrs. and we have well educated/experienced master grdeners... Yet no one can help me find a person who is willingto do a presentation/educational program on: Our reliance for bees in our vegetable/fruit/flower gardens ( how we can make a difference for the better) type format. Will anyone one of you refer  a specialist on your membership or two that maybe open to  coming to our meeting in January? It is the 4th Monday ofthe Mnth @ 1:00 pm in our neighborhood- Please let em know yu FWD. this for me as soon as possble. It tok me a while to get access to site as I am not well- had to go out ofstate. SO the deadline is fast approaching!

thank you most graciously in advance

PS we have a beginning bee starter fo rthis SPring in your membership living amongst us- so cool- she told me to connect with your contacts

 Hi Everyone,

We opened one of our hives and it seems to have no Queen. Lots of Drone cells and many bees, but no new comb or larvae. We put a bar of honey from our other hive, now we need a Queen. Are there any out there???

Glad you worked it out, Phyllis!

OK, I went ahead with another gmail acc't.  Thanks!

Comment by Phyllis Griffin on February 23, 2011 at 9:25am

Hi Chantal,

I don't want to create another email account; if it's OK I'll just set up Mike's existing account as "Mike and Phyllis".  The only problem I see if if there is a restricted number of spots available; I'll try to specify that two are attending for the price of one.  I hope this will work!

Hope  your week is going well!  We now have dates for receiving our package bees and it's better than waiting for christmas!

Hi Phyllis, Hmmmm... unfortunately the system requires separate email accounts for separate profiles. Are you interested or able to create your own gmail account?
Comment by Phyllis Griffin on February 22, 2011 at 1:49pm

Hi Chantal,

Mike and I want to have individual accounts with abqbeeks, but we now have the same email address.  I have been unable to register under my own name because I am informed that the gmail address we now use is already taken (by Mike's account)  Anything we can do to resolve this?  We are planning to totally let go of Earthlink, so the old accounts will be no mo'!!

Thanks, Phyllis Griffin
