Albuquerque Beekeepers

Urban beekeeping in New Mexico's largest city.

How do I use this site?

Welcome! This is a community site for beekeepers in Albuquerque (known as "ABQ Beeks").

Whether you're just getting started or you're a long-time beek, I hope you'll use this site to share information, find events, and connect with each other.

For new beekeepers + people curious about beekeeping:

Hang out. Ask questions in the forum. Consider attending a local event. Volunteer to help someone harvest honey or open their hives.

For experienced beekeepers:

This site needs your knowledge. Please consider signing up and answering questions posted by new beekeepers. Consider creating a special interest group like "Top Bar Beekeepers" or "Swarm Catchers." Post an announcement.

The beauty of a public site like this is that you won't have to answer the same question as many times and can just point new beeks to your previous posts ;-)

How to get started here:

To post questions, answers, and events, you'll need to create a (free) account. Just click Sign Up in the top right of the website.

Once you've done that and answered a few basic questions, you're ready to engage.

How to email people:

Did you know you can directly contact people via this site?

Using this system, you can send someone a message that is forwarded to their personal email address. NOTE: Your personal email address is not revealed to anyone but the site administrator (that's me).

To send someone an email, find their page on the list of members, and then click Send a Message.

How to check your messages

If you've received an email from someone, you can check your messages by logging in and then clicking Inbox at the top right.

How to get emailed about new discussions

Find out how.

What other questions can I answer about this site for you? I'm happy to help you get started.

Hello, my name is Niovis,  live here in Albuquerque, I'm a newbie planning on starting a hive, was wondering if there is any one locally that is selling package bees preferably Italian, or Carniolan, but if you know of some other sturdy ones please let me know. I know there is a lot of places online to purchase, but why not from my community.  niovisd@yahoo.com Thank You Niovis

Our 4 Hills garden group has been in existence for over 40 + yrs. and we have well educated/experienced master grdeners... Yet no one can help me find a person who is willingto do a presentation/educational program on: Our reliance for bees in our vegetable/fruit/flower gardens ( how we can make a difference for the better) type format.  Hi Everyone,

We opened one of our hives and it seems to have no Queen. Lots of Drone cells and many bees, but no new comb or larvae. We put a bar of honey from our other hive, now we need a Queen. Are there any out there???

Hi Chantal,

I don't want to create another email account; if it's OK I'll just set up Mike's existing account as "Mike and Phyllis".  The only problem I see if if there is a restricted number of spots available; I'll try to specify that two are attending for the price of one.  I hope this will work!

Hope  your week is going well!  We now have dates for receiving our package bees and it's better than waiting for christmas!

Hi Phyllis, Hmmmm... unfortunately the system requires separate email accounts for separate profiles. Are you interested or able to create your own gmail account?

Hi Chantal,

Mike and I want to have individual accounts with abqbeeks, but we now have the same email address.  I have been unable to register under my own name because I am informed that the gmail address we now use is already taken (by Mike's account)  Anything we can do to resolve this?  We are planning to totally let go of Earthlink, so the old accounts will be no mo'!!

Thanks, Phyllis Griffin
