Greetings.     I am looking for a 5 gallon bucket or so of dried horse manure chunks for my smoker.  That's what we've been using, and the last bucket lasted a while, with a little bit I got from…Continue

Swarm question

Hey, all.  So, we checked through our 4/4 topbar hives that survived the winter.  3 were packages last year, one was a 2nd swarm from Ben Noyce last year (thanks, Ben!).  We checked last week, and…Continue

How much honey reserves is enough for a hive to overwinter?

For the first three years we've bekept we've mainly gotten swarms, installed them, and tried to get them to survive, with varying success.  All top bar.  We've not fed hives in the past.  We…Continue

Hives died

Ok, we had three topbar hives going into the winter.  Populations looked fine, we thought they had enough resources.  One was weak, and we wondered if it was going to make it.  Nevertheless.  All…Continue

Dried manure for smokers

Greetings.     I am looking for a 5 gallon bucket or so of dried horse manure chunks for my smoker.  That's what we've been using, and the last bucket lasted a while, with a little bit I got from someone.  Does anyone have a supply/source for dried?  I have extra top bars, standard 20" with guide strip, if you need an inducement.  Thanks.Regards,BucknerSee More

How much honey reserves is enough for a hive to overwinter?

For the first three years we've bekept we've mainly gotten swarms, installed them, and tried to get them to survive, with varying success.  All top bar.  We've not fed hives in the past.  We harvested close to a gallon of honey last year in June from 1 decent strength and 2 weaker hives.  They looked all right, and we left reserves.  Then, we had such a dry August/September that there were no resources then, and we didn't know what to look for.We took several steps last year to provide more…See More
