Too much pollen?

We started the year with 2 top bar hives, that I split into 4.  The bees come from natural swarms from the area, and they're prone to laying a lot of brood, which is good.  It has been a good year in…Continue

Smoker Fuel
4 Replies

Well, I've run out of sunflower heads and stalks from my yard I've used for smoker fuel.  There's a good crop coming in this year, so I should be good for next year.  Does anyone have a good source…Continue

Looking for 2 queens

Greetings.     I had 2/3 top bar hives come out of the winter, and strong.  I'm thinking of doing two splits, as I have 4 hive bodies in the yard.  I could do walkaway splits, and hope the splits…Continue

Too much pollen?

We started the year with 2 top bar hives, that I split into 4.  The bees come from natural swarms from the area, and they're prone to laying a lot of brood, which is good.  It has been a good year in our neighborhood; we've harvested 1.5 gallons, 1 lb. of beeswax and should get the same next week or a bit more.  For us, that's very good. Two of the hives are super-strong, two are strong.  There's no sign of swarming at the moment. My question is this: is there such a thing as too much pollen? …See More

Smoker Fuel

Well, I've run out of sunflower heads and stalks from my yard I've used for smoker fuel.  There's a good crop coming in this year, so I should be good for next year.  Does anyone have a good source of smoker fuel here in town, or would be willing to sell me a 5 gallon bucket's worth?  That should carry me through the rest of the year.See More

Good call, I smoked em in, didn't see the queen. Took the inner cover off the new hive body, a lot of wax being drawn on the inner cover above the frames. I had put a fully drawn frame in the center of the new body, they were drawing out the face of the new frames on each side as well as the top. They got the peach tree there for late afternoon shade but several hours of direct sun on the sheet metal cover so I'm gonna put some sunscreen in for them. Thank you
