Profile Information

About me:
Just finished a training at Heifer International Farm (October 2010) )and learned about beekeeping, including harvesting honey from the hives. Am looking to possibly place a hive in my backyard, but I have questions as to location and amount of space. Got these issues resolved thanks to Chantel. Will place my order for bees in January 2011. In the meantime, I'm building my hive boxes to be ready for April bees pickup.

Hello Mike,

Yes, I am beginning to research having bees. I am not currently in a place to house bees but I thought it would be a good idea to do research now so that I can look for a place that would be bee friendly when I rent again next year.

I do need to know what type of hives to use for my particular needs. I make a lot of my own cosmetic products using wax and honey and I realized it would be more cost effective and better for me to produce the wax and honey myself.

I also have always dreamed of housing bees and realized if I do not start now when would I start?

I am a very busy college student but I would be interested in going to an extraction event which I am assuming is extracting the wax and honey from your hives?

I really appreciate you reaching out to me as a "newbee." I will be taking my time to learn since my goal is buy hives in two years but I am very eager and love the enthusiasm from this site.

Thank you so much and have a blessed day,

Bresdin

Hi Mike,

Your extraction event sound fun, I recently purchased a radial extractor and have extracted over 140 lbs so far from 7 hives and about 40-60lbs additional pending from a lang and a topbar, if i don't split them.  We extracted about one third through crush and strain and the remainder with our new extractor which is a hand crank but can be easily motorized, holds 9 deeps or 18 mediums/shallows. Hopefully i will be able to upgrade my extractor next spring to motorized.

Hi Mike,

You asked me a question regarding my fruits and vegetables being organic.  We grow organically, but are not going through the certification process.  I use natural fertilizers and do not use chemicals.

I somehow missed and lost your comment since I am new at using this site.

Thanks,

Ed
