In celebration of National Pollinator Week, the New Mexico Beekeepers Association will be bringing in Les Crowder, internationally renowned top bar beekeeper and author, Top-Bar Beekeeping on June 12-13, 2015. "I shook them into a cardboard box. I didn't want to damage that beautiful pomegranate. With such flexable branches it was easy to shake them. I also didn't have my veil so I went for the quick option."

Hi Beeks,I need some help with topbar hive maintenance. I have a new hive that is super productive with honey and brood. They've almost filled the hive and it's their first year.  However, they've gone cross-combing crazy and filled bars with honey that balloon out. These bees are just not wanting color within the lines!I tried working this out today and they became pretty sting happy and upset. I ended up having to close the hive without completing the job. This is my third year as a beekeeper. I have 2 hives, both in Los Ranchos. Finally feel like I'm getting out of the beginner stage. But when it comes to troubleshooting, I still have lots to learn. I adore the bees (as I'm sure all of us do here)!
