Profile Information

About me:
We just became bee keepers when a neighbor moved and sold us his hive. My son and myself are not sure how to keep them alive during the winter months other than keeping them warm.
Should we continue to feed them sugar water?
I use the following type of bee hives:
Langstroth
My bee hives are primarily located here (ZIP code):
87106

Nobhill Bees, I suggest that you stop feeding the bees sugar water for the winter. You don't want them to swarm unnaturally early due to a nectar bound brood nest. Also, I have heard that bees won't take sugar water if the syrup is below 50 degrees, Michael Bush http://www.bushfarms.com/beesfallacies.htm#feedingcanthurt
