How much money can you make before needing a tax I.D. and reporting to the IRS?

My research has shown different figures.  Perhaps the need for a TAX I.D. depends on the state that you live in?  I found that if the beekeeper is going to make more than $2,000 per year, then we…Continue

Where to order bees?

There’s a group of us in Ramah who are wanting to order bees.  Does anyone sell Nucs?  How about package bees?  Do you know anyone who may have bees for sale this late in the game?  We live at 7,000…Continue

Does anyone have bees for sale?

We just moved back to New Mexico (Zuni Mountains, 7,000 feet) and would like to start a few hives again.  I know this is late in the year, but I thought I’d ask…Continue

"Kris, I’m glad to hear that your bees are doing well.  Monsoon season isn’t going to hurt the bees.  Sugar syrup is acidic and isn’t an ideal feed, so I wouldn’t use it unless in an emergency situation.  Being…"

"If all possible, try not to keep your hives in full sun.  As for temperature, if you don't see beading on the outside of your Warre, the temp is probably just fine.  Remember, bees try to keep the hive temperature around 93…"

"Hi, Kris.  Leave the sawdust in the quilt box year round.  Just like in the roof of your home, insulation helps maintain a consistent temperature in the hive.  The sawdust also helps absorb condensation when you…"

"That looks good, Kris.  Two boxes are not required for startup, but it won't hurt, either.  Make sure the hive stands are anchored down.  A good wind will blow the hives and hive stand over.  Keep us posted on your…"

"My theory is that the bees had enough nectar to make brood, but not enough nectar to maintain a growing population.  If I had to guess, I would say they were stressed due to a lack of available nectar, then absconded.  In short, a…"

"Unless it's unseasonably dry, the Albuquerque area seems to have a sufficient amount of nectar through October.  If it's a dry year, then sometimes the bees have to work hard to find nectar.  Working harder…"
