As an herbalist, she will also provide instruction on how we can harvest and produce medicines from the garden for our own winter…See More

August 16, 2018 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm
During our August meeting Amy Owen will discuss Fall Hive Management.  We will also be getting into 'area' groups so that we can get to know our neighbors.  This will enable us to better help one another with our hives, share resources, and will build community.  If anyone is interested in organizing this portion of our meeting please let me know by sending an email to ajowen23@gmail.com.  See More

"Just to give some info to add to the list... We have lost at least one hive each year, over the span of about 4 years. Given we started with 3 hives, with one successful split (making 4 hives), we've had total loss. Our last remaining hive…"

"I think the best way to manage a hot hive is to replace the queen. On the other hand, it may not be a lot of fun digging into an aggressive hive to find the queen. Maybe best to catch a swarm. I've always had good luck with them.  Jens"

Hi Sigrid.  Thanks for your note.  I've not been active in the association and have not had active hives for a few years.  Just got too busy to do right by them.

I have, however, been thinking of catching a swarm if the opportunity were to arise.  I've noticed not too many pollinators in the area this Spring.

How are your bees doing?

Jens
