  • Somebody’s bees are back on my fountain. (Beekeeper or mother nature; they are “my” bees when I see them. They are loving my almond blossoms, too.
  • I live in North Hills and I am interested in having a hive in my yard. Not ready to become a beekeeper though. I had a small waterfall built and when it was turned on last year I had a million bees all over it from March through June of 2019. I hope they found another source closer to home. From the direction they took I think they were heading to Colinas or Northern Meadows area. Any beekeepers nearby?
    • There are several beekeepers in your area. I have no idea though which hive they came from. I live in Enchanted Hill area. You live too far from me for them to be my bees. What you see could also come from a ferrel hive. It is hard to tell. Perhaps more beekeepers in your area will see your post and respond. The bees thank you for your much needed water.
  • My guess is that the dry weather this winter would not be a reasonable explanation for bee loss.  My experience has taught me that more times than not it is the mite which weakens the hive so much that the cluster is not strong enough to endure cold nights. There are also other possible reasons.  Another thing to worry about is the warm weather we are having during the day.  With warm weather the bees are more active.  With that activity the bees use honey stores faster.  All of us should be lifting our hives to see if it still has the weight of sufficient honey stores.  If not we need to supplement with sugar water or other source of sugar.

  • Wondered if anyone had loss of bees this winter due to the Dry weather?

  • Any Rio Rancho beekeepers? I'm interested in starting a backyard hive and was hoping to learn a bit about it.
  • There is one on eBay for $203.99 plus $96.00 shipping from Slovenia.  I happened to see it on eBay and had read the comments here about this hive, so I thought I would share with everyone.

  • I am desperately trying to find 2 swarms that flew away from their new home(s) Sunday mid morning here in Corrales.  I had installed 3 bee packages into their hives Saturday evening and believed everything was fine.  There was activity around the hives on Sunday mid morning, but Monday morning when I went to check on them, only 1 hive was still here.  I'm new to beekeeping and am devastated to have lost 2 hives.  I am willing to pay a reward if anyone has found and rescued them.

  • Hi James. That $500 price tag is still less than a Warre hive, (Sweet Valley, although they recently reduced the price).  I just love how they all fit together in  the bee house.  Neat, clean, practical.  The email I got repeats what you are saying and I believe they will even ship Nucs.  How awesome is that?

  • This hive certainly seems user friendly.  I sent them an emil and as soon as I get a response I will share it with you.

Slovenian "AZ" Hive

Has anyone heard of the AZ hive, that originates from Slovenia. It is the beekeeping capital of Europe!  Their Hives are AMAZING! Minimal disruption to bees during inspections and harvesting the honey. I want to buy some and see how they do in our region of the world.  Check out the website: http://www.slovenianbeekeeping.com/index-one.html.  Let me know what everyone's thoughts are,  I would love to get a community "AZ" hive started somewhere within the city where everyone can learn and…
